Congresswoman
Shelley Moore Capito is the
Representative for West
Virginia's 2nd Congressional District. She is distinguished as the
only Republican and the only woman in that state's congressional
delegation.
Capito serves on the House
Financial Services
Committee - where she is the Ranking Member of the Subcommittee
on Housing and Community Development - as well as the Committee
on Transportation and Infrastructure. She is also a member of
the Congressional Caucus for Women's Issues and a member of the
Congressional Steel Caucus and Sportsman’s Caucus.
Improving
and expanding rural health care is one of her top priorities,
which she pursues as a steering committee member of the Rural
Health Care Caucus and as Co-Chair of the Long Term Care Caucus,
which focuses on providing high quality health care for our
nation's seniors and disabled citizens.
Congresswoman Capito's priorities
also have included the elimination of restrictive regulations that make it
tough for companies to stay in West Virginia or move new jobs
into the state. She continues to pursue funding for
critical West Virginia road projects, and she also focuses on
efforts to boost the productivity of West Virginia
businesses and create new jobs in the state. She is a staunch proponent of a strong national defense and
increased
homeland security.
Prior to her service in the
U.S. House,
Capito represented
the Charleston area in the West Virginia House
of Delegates for two terms. Before that, she worked as a career
counselor at West Virginia State College and as Director of the
Educational Information Center for the West Virginia Board of
Regents.
Born and
raised in West Virginia, Capito graduated from Duke University and
holds a master's degree from the University of Virginia.
